Another covid 19 vaccine shows success in the U.S

News has been received from a candidate for the Covid 19 vaccine for a second time this month: Moderna said Monday that his shots have strong hopes against the growing alarming backdrop of the coronavirus in the United States and around the world.

Moderna said that according to the preliminary data of the company's ongoing research, its vaccine is 94.5% effective. One week ago, rival Pfizer Inc. announced that its COVID-19 vaccine was similarly effective. The news indicates that both companies are on the verge of getting permission for emergency use in the United States within a week.

Stephen Hodge, president of Moderna, welcomed the "really important milestone" but said it was most satisfying to see similar results from two different companies.

"It should give us all hope that a vaccine will actually be able to stop this epidemic and hopefully take us back into our lives," Hodge added.

"It will not be the only Moderna, that will solve this problem," he said, adding that more vaccines would be needed to meet global demand.

A vaccine may not come so quickly, as there are 11 million cases of the virus in the United States over the weekend. The epidemic has killed more than 1.3 million people worldwide, including more than 245,000 in the United States.
